My name is Michael ‘Mick’ to many. Having served my time with a local building and decorating firm in Haddenham it was always my ambition and desire to run my own painting and decorating business. In 1979 when I was just 19 years old I braved it and took the plunge.
Fast forward to present day and the business now has a team of 8 (inc. Kay), who are trained not only to be professionally qualified painters and decorators, but to be friendly and respectful and to take care of clients homes and workspaces.
Simmonds is a family business – my wife Kay is responsible for administration, accounts and running the office, my brother Graham is a skilled carpenter and he runs the day to day side of the business with my son Matthew.
We take on people as school leavers and train them up to our way of thinking. All our team members have served 3 year apprenticeships with us gaining various qualifications – full City & Guilds, NVQ, CITB (Construction Industry Training Boards). We are also health and safety conscious having attended a number of courses. Our staff have undergone CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checks, to fall in-line with the Hampshire County Council ‘Buy with confidence’ scheme.
Every client has the opportunity to complete a trading standards survey form. All of the customer feedback forms and ratings are published on the Trading Standards websites. See for yourself.
Unfortunately, Checkatrade no longer meet the needs and criteria of our business.
In July 2024 we relinquished our membership & association with Checkatrade.
We had over 600 top rated, 10/10 customer feedback reviews on the checkatrade platform. However, unfortunately, we regret to say that, Checkatrade have now removed them all.

Meet the Team
Although Mick is now semi-retired, he’s still closely involved with the business, but on a much smaller scale. Since Mick moved to the back office in 2022, his brother Graham and his son Matt are now full partners and they now run the day to day side of the business, Mick still helps out and with the estimating and invoicing.
No job is too big for us. In addition to our regular team of loyal and long serving employees, we’ve also built a first class team of experienced and dependable sub-contract decorators.
We have the capability and the skilled workforce to cope with even the largest of painting and decorating projects.
